Welcome to our website – a glimpse into life at St Margaret Mary’s College, the largest Catholic girls’ school in Townsville.
For fifty years, St Margaret Mary's College has educated thousands of young girls, assisting them in becoming women of compassion and confidence. Founded by the Good Samaritan Sisters, the ethos of the College community is imbued with the Benedictine spirituality. As the Principal, I am eager to communicate to you the very essence of this fine Catholic girls’ school.
Caring and self-assured, our girls consistently strive to do their best. They are conscientious, enthusiastic and positive. They present themselves well and are courteous. They are known as outstanding sportswomen, performing and visual artists, musicians, debaters, and problem solvers.
Our girls expect to succeed. Research indicates that, across the board, girls in all-girls schools have the highest levels of aspiration. The academic staff of the College explores and implements with enthusiasm the best methods to use for teaching girls.
School spirit at St Margaret Mary’s College is extraordinarily strong. Students are active in shaping the life of the College through their involvements in a very broad range of extra-curricular activities, in assemblies, and through the many leadership opportunities available to them in the cultural, sporting and spiritual life of the College.
Girls at St Margaret Mary’s support each other and are strongly supported by both their teachers and the ancillary staff. The values of the College are firmly rooted in the Catholic faith and demonstrate a strong commitment to service and social justice. The pastoral care system in the school features the mentoring of younger girls by their older leaders. The students are also strongly supported by their parents who are also amongst the College’s best advocates.
