Library

St Margaret Mary’s College Library provides a welcoming and stimulating learning environment to support and enrich the school’s curriculum. We aim to empower students to become information-literate life-long learners.

The library comprises an extensive collection of printed, audio-visual and on-line resources. Students may borrow freely from the collection for both academic and recreational purposes. Staff and students can also access the library catalogue (Destiny) and external electronic databases (Encyclopaedia Britannica, elibrary Australasia) from home.

A qualified and experienced Teacher-Librarian works with teachers and classes to develop students’ information literacy and technology skills. The library is also staffed by a full-time aide and an audio-visual technician.

Reading is valued and promoted across the school. Students receive reading lists of fiction titles available in the collection appropriate to their year level. Regular class time is also given for students to engage in extended reading sessions. Library events include the Readers’ Cup Challenge, our Writer-in-Residence program, iWrite workshops and Book Week activities.
